So… the Doctor told me I’ve gotten too heavy.  I weigh in at 15st 4lbs… which is way too much for my 5’4” height.  Additionally, I’m 41 and I know this is going to be hard now that I’m older.  I’ve steadily gained weight over the past few years but have piled on the pounds in the past 3 or 4 years in particular.

Exercise is my stumbling block… I have a pretty physical job however I start at 8am and work through til 7 or 8pm and I’m exhausted.  The exhaustion is, no doubt, related to the extra weight I’m carrying… and at the moment I feel too uncomfortable and self conscious to go to a gym.  I tried that once and was overwhelmed by the people who looked better and exercised better than me.

One thing I do enjoy doing is walking… and I’ll do what I can to just up the ante and go for it.  I’ll start by getting off the bus a few stops earlier in the morning and getting on the bus a few stops later in the evening.  I know what times the bus comes and I can easily leave work a little earlier or later to factor in some walking time to another bus stop.

I’m determined to do this and will record how I’m getting on and how I am feeling here.  I’ll obviously post my weight weekly as I weigh in on Monday mornings and I might post what I am eating as well if it helps me keep track of where I am getting things right and where I am getting things wrong.

I go on vacation to a hot and sunny place on 15th July 2010 and I want to be no heavier than 12 stone by the time I get on the plane.
